South Mountain Knitting Guild
South Mountain Knitting Guild became official on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 after a long hiatus. We had 5 people attend our first meeting, but would love to see more. If you want to learn to knit or are a Master Knitter, come join us on the third Tuesday of each month at Wegmans on Route 26 (Clemsons Corner) from 6pm to 8pm in the main dining room by the TV. We are working on a great charity project (Warm Up America!) and are going to be learning basic stitches for some of our newer knitters. Come join the fun! There is no fee to show up, knit, and enjoy the evening.

National Night Out!
We had a table at National Night Out in Carroll Park last night. There was a lot of interest in people who wanted to learn how to crochet, or who already crocheted and wanted to learn more.
We welcome all new members!

2015 Hat Drive
This year, we are setting our goal as 500 hats for Frederick County Schools, specifically Emmitsburg, Hillcrest, Lincoln, Waverly, and Sabillasville. We have three hat drive meetings, August 25, September 29, and October 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wegmans.
Even if you don't feel like making hats, you can simply sit and work on a project of your choice.
As of our August 25 meeting, we have 35 hats.

A new year
Happy 2015! This year, we're going to learn (or practice) a different stitch every month. We'll have both a hat pattern and an afghan square pattern to try, so you can have a bunch of hats or an afghan done this year (or both, if you like).
For the January 27, 2015 meeting, bring worsted weight yarn and a G or H hook. We'll be working on a set of similar stitches: the puff stitch (also known as the bobble stitch), the popcorn stitch, and the berry stitch. These stitches generally show up better with a solid color yarn than with a variegated yarn.
Hope to see you at the meeting!

WOOHOO!! Another 169 HATS!!!
Hello Everyone!
Wow I am so amazed at the generosity of people's time and talents!! I mean, it's one thing to be willing to run to the store and buy something for charity and take the time to take to a center, but just imagine the extra effort when you have to HAND MAKE the item as well. Giving of your time and resources is such an amazing gift!
We had another 169 hats turned in between our guild members and members of the community who donated. We even received 4 hats mailed to us from a lady in Waldorf MD. How cool is that??
Thank you again to everyone who is helping us with our hat drive this year!! I can't wait to see how many hats come in this month!
