WOOHOO!! Another 169 HATS!!!

Hello Everyone!

Wow I am so amazed at the generosity of people's time and talents!!  I mean, it's one thing to be willing to run to the store and buy something for charity and take the time to take to a center, but just imagine the extra effort when you have to HAND MAKE the item as well.  Giving of your time and resources is such an amazing gift!

We had another 169 hats turned in between our guild members and members of the community who donated.  We even received 4 hats mailed to us from a lady in Waldorf MD.  How cool is that??

Thank you again to everyone who is helping us with our hat drive this year!!  I can't wait to see how many hats come in this month!

HOLY MOLY! 111 Hats right off the bat!!

Well hello there all you crazy crocheters!!

To kick off the 2013 Hat Drive, we had 111 hats turned in at last nights meeting.  That is AMAZING!!!  I am pleased to say that the Brunswick and Frederick Senior Centers have agreed to help us out again this year.  Also Two Rivers Yarns in Brunswick is going to help collect hats!  This is going to be an exciting drive!

Here are a few pictures from last nights meeting:

We had 11 folks at last nights meeting.

A special Thank you to Linda for bringing these AMAZING examples of Tunisian.  Check out the close up below of that beautiful bird!!.  The basic Tunisian stitch provides a very nice grid which you can then use a cross stitch technique to add an infinite possibility of designs!!

 Just Gorgeous Right???

Some of you may recognize the design on this blanket from the Blue Willow designs.  Stunning isn't it?

 111 HATS and COUNTING!!!!

Ronda was nice enough to take a picture of me in Sandy's crocodile stitch hat.  Aren't I adorable??

See you all next month for our next collection of hats.  Check out the 2013 Hat Drive page to see the thermometer fill as we add hats!!

See you all next month!

April Meeting 2013

We had a great turnout last night.  Twelve ladies came out to make an attempt at the Crocodile Stitch.  We struggled for a while but eventually everyone got the hang of it.  Not everyone loved it :)  But we all had fun working our way through it.  Next month we are going to tackle Tunisian Simple Stitch and in June we kick off the 2013 SMC Hat Drive!  Oh BOY!!!  Here are some pictures from last nights adventures:

March Meeting

Hey there all you Crocheters!!

We had 12 folks at last nights meeting!  That is awesome!  We tried a new technique last night.  It was learning how to do a cable in crochet.  Now this was more challenging than some of our previous projects but I am so happy to hear that you all gave it a try!  If you weren't able to attend but would like a copy of the pattern, email me at smcrocheters@yahoo.com and I will send it to you.

I wanted to share this photo from February's meeting.  This is one of the completed fingerless gloves sets from our January project.  This was the difficult level pattern and I think Tish did a fabulous job with them!  Just love the colors she chose, don't you?

On a personal note, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who thought of me yesterday.  The surprise birthday party for me was wonderful!!  I was so touched.  Thank you so much!  Here's a pic of the beautiful cake.

So Thank you to Sandy and everyone else involved in this wonderful surprise!  It meant a lo!

See you all next month!!

Meeting 1-29-13

Hello all you happy crocheters!!!

We had a great start to the new year with last nights meeting.  We tried our first mystery CAL (crochet-a-long).  Two patterns were available, one with an Easy level, and one Intermediate.  I have to say that I think everyone responded really well to giving the patterns a try.  Here's a few pics from last nights meeting:

Ronda showing off the hat Phillis made.

Great turnout!! 12 members showed last night

We also discussed our plans for the coming year.  A great suggestion was that for each meeting we do a project that teaches a new technique or stitch.  So for each meeting I will send out a supply list and technique we will work on during the meeting.  Of course, the group projects are always optional but it should be a lot of fun.

Also, we are going to be doing another hat drive as our charity event for this year.  We will be starting it early than last by holding it over the summer.  Most likely we will kick it off at our May meeting but I haven't finalized anything yet.

Thanks for coming out everyone!!!!  For those of you who might like the Mystery CAL patterns, email me at smcrocheters@yahoo.com and I will be happy to send you copies!  See you all in February!!
